The idea
or aim of writing the lyrical Ballad introduced to the Reader poem of William
Wordsworth felt at each and every new original poet had to create the test by
which readers will read and enjoy and this is the basic objective of the
preface of lyrical Ballad.
Wordsworth
apprize first the poetry which written earlier and these poetry shows how
new written poetry is differ than them, also how can be appreciated.
Theme
Theme
of Preface is about the view of William for poetic diction or
subject and object of poetry. Poet says that he had chosen to write about an
incident and events from the countryside people's life and the language
really used by them. But this was only imagination. we can see the human nature
or a reality in simplicit. so,wordsworth chosen humble and rural or simple
lifestyle. Common people are next near to nature, so we cannot see the
artificiality and ornamatical feeling and nature.
Subject matter of poetry
This
is the theme of poetry as per Williams view poem was choosing from the
situation and event which happen in simple life and in common people how to
describe them by words for selection of language really used by men and making
the imagination new to colouring it to make that incident interesting by
pressing in them really thought not expressive.Poetry is a form, there are
emotion, feeling, culture, originality not artificial sense, humility and
humbleness etc.
when poet write
poetry imagination thought and spontaneous feeling is very important and useful
for poet to write poem as we know poetry is very hard to make because it has
less word to express too much tales and feeling reality is the thing which we
find in simplicity so the common Lifestyle culture etcetera are subject of
poetry.
The language of poem
William
Wordsworth also talk about the language which using by the poet he said that
language would be come on is the people are rustic and common life still life
so they can also read the poem and get the improvement of poem and literature
which are written on their cultural and lifestyle.
What is poet?
Wordsworth
ask one question is not who is a poet but he ask what is a. He gave the
definition of poet giving in his view in answer that,
"He
is a man speaking to men it is true in soft wheat more likely sensibility more
enthusiasm and tenderness"
He said poet has
knowledge of the nature and comprehensive sound also common among the mankind
this kind of quality according Wordsworth have to in poet.
Wordsworth's definition of poetry:
"
Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings it takes origin from
emotion recollected in tranquility. "
Poetry is
to teach moral lessons with a feeling of delight. It is to give instruction and
delight by connecting people with the poet and his imagination.
Discuss
'Daffodils - I wandered lonely as a cloud' with reference to Wordsworth's
poetic creed...
"
I wandered lonely as a cloud....."
Daffodils
is the best example of Wordsworth's definition of poetry " poetry is the
spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings, recollected in tranquillity.''
Many
times, we capture the beauty of nature by our eyes, but we cannot recollect and
express that delight in tranquillity. Wordsworth does this amazingly. He
enjoys the nature and represents it beautifully. We can say nature is at its
best in this poetry. Delight of a particular moment and it's memory are
represented all together.
Wordsworth 'S concept of
poetic diction :-
Wordsworth
stated that is object in adopting a simple addiction for his poem was nearly to
ascertain how far the language of conversation in the middle and lower classes
of society was adapted to the purposes of poetic pleasure the publication of a
second edition of the lyrical Ballad in 1800 provided him with the
occasion to explain it. explaining why only you're interested life was chosen
for this purpose he says they did ed condition free from all outside insurance
men speak from their own personal experience and gone with the feelings and
notions in simple and on collaborated expression pattern language therefore is
a more permanent and a fast more philosophical language standard regis
frequently substituted for a tripod routines today as confirming honorable
themselves and their dad in proportion is there separate themselves from the
simple piece of men and indulge indulge arbitrary and capricious habits of expression
in order to furnish too for fickle tastes and fickle appetite of their own
creation.Wordsworth said that his purpose is to imitate and as far as is
possible to adopt the very language of men.
Pop
Jonson and Grey demand high and top most poetic diction the terms diction and
poetic diction are generally used in the augustan age of English literature the
idea from point to point Wordsworth closely examines the simple and primary
fondness and duties which he thought where to be found amidst the present class
to Wordsworth it was the efforts Wordsworth villas in our villages who set up
the two thought of humanity living is natural draught Desire them to live to
support such a belief it was instinctive for Wordsworth to come forward as a
leader of real human speech spoken by the common people does the speech of the
rustic seem to be a proper medium of poetry he writes that most of his poems
are Britain chiefly with view of excretion how far the language of conversation
in the middle and lower classes of society requested to the purposes of poetic
pleasure.
Wordsworth
lyrical Ballad is a landmark in the history of English literature, especially
in poetry Wordsworth studied the simple object of nature and give them the
imaginative colours Wordsworth lived on the plane of common life concentrating
on the life that he so around him so in Wordsworth poem we find an image in
native record of the best real life as well as the best role beauties of place
he lived in Wordsworth so the spirit of joy in nature referred divine spirit
providing the object of nature.
He
continued to believe throughout his life that the spirit of God Lives through
the object of nature and found ,he didn't believe in high imaginative power he
believed in simplicity of diction and what poetry to the level of the common
speech of common life common life of the common human being so they can also
enjoy the literature.
The function of the poetry:-
According
to Wordsworth's poetry is the breath and Finer spirit of all knowledge the
impatient expression that is in the countenance of all science the poet is the
main wood looks before and after he is the rock and defence for human nature
and a folder and preserver carrying everywhere with him relationship and love
the poet bites together What a patient and knowledge the vast empire of human
society poetry is the first and last of all knowledge as Immortal is the heart
of man Wordsworth defines poetry in his preface to the lyrical ballads he says
that poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings recollecting Infra
quality Wordsworth also discuss the term poets and the language used by the
poet while writing poem he says that the poet was a man speaking to man.
The poet
Converse with general nature the knowledge of the poet and the man of science
is Pleasure have a word the poet sang a song in which all human beings joined
with him rejoice in the presence of truth is our visible friend and only
companion.
Style of poetry:-
Wordsworth
view on poetic style where the most Revolutionary of all the idea in the
preface he insisted his poems where written in selection of language of Men in
a state of Vivid sensation and common man for Wordsworth the rustic speech
become synonymous with the general human space the language spoken by a human
being in a state of emotion perched and purification by the poet for the main
when was speak of the selection of the language of men he clear realise that it
is only when selection had taken place that the poet will be able to separate
the vulgarity of common life from his composition the poet must eliminate
whatever was distressing.
There is
no distinction between the language of prose and poetry according to William
Wordsworth says that there either is no can be any essential differences
between the language of pros and metrical composition heatex up a Sonnet of
Grey and thinking on the lines which were valuable in it where hardly different
from what they would be in prose he reject the use of personification in the
poem because personification cannot form a part of the language used by the
man.
To use of
metaphor in a state of patient had been regarded as being the language of
primitive poet so he does seem to recommend a kind of primitivism which was in
other words experience of strong patient it will be seen from the above remarks
cat breeders admit that there was a distinction between the language of poetry
and prose.
Importance of Wordsworth's views on the nature and language of poetry
Wordsworth's views on the nature and language of poetry are important because they mark a complete break from the poetic tradition of the neoclassical School. In the 'Preface to the Lyrical Ballads' defining the nature and function of poetry Wordsworth say that:
“Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.”
Poetry, according to Wordsworth, is not dependent upon rhetorical and literary devices. It is the free expression of the poet's thoughts and feelings. The poet must make an attempt to reveal truth through an imaginative awareness of persons and things.
Wordsworth says that a poet must convey his ideas and emotions through a powerful recreation of the original experience. To achieve this, he further adds that he removed the dead expressions of the older poetic vocabulary and substituted the language of common men and women.
Conclusion:
Wordsworth
idea of a new theory of poetry is very good given by him in ‘Preface’ addition.
He gives commitment to all poets who write poetry to be written in simple
language. Thus , Wordsworth gives a new meaning or definition of poet and also
poetry. In ‘Preface’ Wordsworth give a new theory of poetry.
